Russian "Scholar": US Collapse by 2011
A Russian scholar claims US is in moral decline, Obama will declare marital law, and the United States will collapse into 6 rump states by 2011 (http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090304/ap_on_re_eu/eu_russia_us_the_end_is_near). Critics respond that he might better be describing Russia.

The United States will never be broken up by anything but an alien invasion (which I don't foresee in the near future). We have fought with blood and sweat to ensure a united republic.. No sitting president would allow a rogue state(s) to operate under their own authority within the U.S. borders. This is just Russian state propaganda aimed at making the U.S. look weak, and we can expect more of it in the future. Russia's economy has been hit much harder than the U.S. This scholar is simply attempting to interpret a U.S. collapse in the framework of a soviet collapse. The U.S. did not overextend its borders, we do not have a model that is simply unsustainable, and we have enough of a centralized government with enough knowledge of history to be comfortable believing that the U.S. will not break up.
ReplyDelete* This is not the time for Obama to look impotent and cave into Russia's global demands, but to stand up to the Ruskis and perhaps make them a part of fixing the global order.
